Groundwater has become a vital resource for social, economic and environmental development and sustainability for over the past few decades. Moreover, the challenges from climate change, ongoing covid -19 and global uncertainties make people more and more reliant on groundwater in order to maintain well-being, livelihoods, ecosystems, industries, agriculture and urban development. Currently, more than one-third of the world’s population depends on groundwater as a primary source of drinking water and this number is set to rise substantially over the next few decades. As such, groundwater remains a valuable natural resource and an essential component of the hydrologic system.
Therefore, given the importance of this resource to our collective futures, groundwater development should be carefully managed to make full benefit of its potential, to protect its quality and to guard against over-exploitation of the aquifers. More importantly, it is in all of our interests to develop a sound, quantitative knowledge of groundwater resources worldwide.
The 1st Thailand Groundwater Symposium: Key to Water Security and Sustainability will be hosted by the Department of Groundwater Resources (DGR), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Groundwater Development Fund. It aims to provide participants with opportunities to share their experiences, research findings, innovation and technology regarding groundwater-related issues, and to serve as an international platform for leading researchers, policy makers, practitioners and private executives to identify common and emerging issues, hotspots and opportunities in groundwater management, as well as to discuss how to further build the coalition.
It is our pleasure to announce that the 1st Thailand Groundwater Symposium: Key to Water Security and Sustainability will be held in Thailand (22 - 26 August 2022). The Symposium comprises of a three-day oral and poster presentation program (22 - 24 August 2022) and a two-day excursion at Kanchanaburi Province (25 - 26 August 2022).
